Sewerage System Overload
Missing Jam Jars
Thank you to helpers at accident
93rd birthday thanks
Cat helpers thanked

Dear Editor,

Where are our Parish Councillors?

For some years the local sewerage system has not been able to cope. When we get even moderate falls of rain, the manhole covers lift off and sewage discharges into Feltham Road, contaminating Feltham Brook as well as putting people's health at risk with what is on the public highway. Surface water from Pucklechurch has to go via Feltham Road, and the clean water system can't cope.

Local farmland also has to suffer as there are a number of sewer manhole covers between Pucklechurch and the sewage works.

Already some houses are having sewage coming into them via their downstairs loos. Build 90 more homes at Oaktree Avenue and those down below will be swimming.

Do you want your children to catch some nasty bug? Express your feelings now before it's too late.

Response to Pucklechurch News from Wessex Water:

Thank you for your email of 26 July informing us of a letter you have received from a local resident concerned about sewage flooding in Feltham Road, Pucklechurch.

We are aware that the sewers serving Pucklechurch have a capacity problem, and as a result we are preparing a scheme to be undertaken in the near future, which will rectify the problem. This will be an extensive scheme requiring the involvement of a number of agencies as well as ourselves to be successful. Unfortunately, we cannot yet confirm a start date for this scheme.

In the meantime, we have undertaken some minor works to help protect Mr Simpson's land should there be any further flooding between now and when we are able to implement the improvement scheme. We have been in contact with Mr Simpson, who is most affected by the flooding, to explain the actions we propose to take and will continue to keep him updated on our progress.

Response from Parish Councillor Marilyn Palmer:

Steve Webb MP wrote to Wessex Water about this issue in July. In correspondence with Steve Webb, the Chairman of Wessex Water explained that a scheme to resolve the problem was planned for completion in 2009 but has now been advanced for construction during the summer of 2007. In the meantime, Wessex Water has undertaken some preliminary work to reduce the impact of any flooding.

Dear Editor,

Where have all the jam jars gone? No one brings us any these days, yet the ladies of the WI Country Markets still need them. They need to be clean and can be brought to any member and we will distribute them.

Also, we save the stamps we get on letters. We have quite a few but don't know what to do with them. Could anyone tell me?

Dear Editor,

My two children were involved in an accident involving a car in May. A man called Alex and two others stopped to help, and I am very grateful. The driver of the car was a young man, and thanks to his careful driving and keeping to the speed limit, my children are both fine.

Thank you again to all who helped. It showed me that Pucklechurch still has caring people who stopped to help two young children.

Dear Editor,

Many thanks to my family and friends for the lovely surprise party for my 93rd birthday.

Criss Overbury

Dear Editor,

We should be extremely grateful if you could print this letter to thank two ladies who came to the assistance of my family recently. Our cat was hit by a speeding car on Parkfield Road, just outside our house. The driver did not stop, but a lady who was passing just after came to fetch us. She then went to collect one of her neighbours, who is a veterinary nurse, and brought her back.  Unfortunately our cat's injuries were far too serious, but we were able to comfort him as he slipped away.

We would like to send heartfelt thanks to both of these ladies, whom we believe live further along Parkfield Road, for their kindness and compassion.
