September 2004
Dear Editor, I noted the letter in the last issue of Pucklechurch News in which a concerned parent and resident was voicing fear for the safety of pedestrians on Castle Road. Every weekday and some Saturdays, Castle Road is used by a series of heavy goods vehicles weighing over 45 tonnes, in contravention of the 7.5 tonne weight limit imposed on the road by South Glos Council. These are some of the longest HGV lorries on our roads, and they seldom stay below 30mph on Westerleigh Road or Castle Road. One only has to look at the tyre marks at each end of Castle Road to see that the lorries cannot turn properly. They are totally unfit for a small road with a school, a pub, and a recreation ground. It is only a matter of time before one of these lorries is involved in an accident. It's a shame that neither the Parish Council nor the County Council are interested in diverting these lorries away from this route, and the police do not appear interested in them either. Perhaps they will take note when someone is killed or injured.

Dear Editor, Happy birthday to the new Pucklechurch News! Congratulations to the editors on completing your first year. The paper is full of good information, and the articles on the seniors are very interesting.
