PUCKLECHURCH SPORTS FOOTBALL CLUB
The Football Club is able to report another successful season with a total of nine sides having now completed the 2003/2004 programme.
In the senior section, the First Team came a disappointing 16th in the Gloucestershire County League. The Reserves and Third Team, however, both finished in the top half of their divisions in the Bristol & District League. At the annual dinner at the Bristol Golf Club on Friday, 30th April, the following presentations were made:
The youth section continues to flourish with six age groups. Under 8 and Under 9 teams completed a programme of friendly mini soccer games, and the Under 10s competed in their first year in the Hanham Minor League, finishing a creditable 8th position. The three older sides in the Avon Youth League had mixed fortunes; the pick of the bunch being the Under 15s, who lost only three games and finished as runners-up. At their presentation evening on 15th May, individual awards were given out to over 90 children. The Clubman of the Year distinction went to John Davies, who had completed five years with the Club.
At the Annual General Meeting for the seniors, new Chairman Chris Belcher was confirmed in the position. Secretary Dick Savage resigned after 14 years of service but remains involved as a committee member. Jackie Mooney was elected Secretary. Jackie has previously been involved as Secretary and Fixture Secretary of the youth section.
Joint First Team managers Andy Wescott and John Wiltshire stepped down at the end of the season, so Club Chairman Chris Belcher is now looking for a replacement for the coming 2004/2005 season. Anyone interested in being considered can contact Chris on 01454 324422.
The junior section will be holding its AGM at the Star Inn on Monday, 24th May. All players and parents are welcome. The Club is looking for interested parents to help start up a new Under 8 team for next season. Enthusiasm is more important than technical knowledge. The Club will provide all the backup necessary, including kit and equipment, plus training for new managers and coaches. Anyone interested, please phone Debbie Preece, Club Secretary (937 2808), for an initial discussion.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed this season. We look forward to more of the same for 2004/2005.
