Pucklechurch Cricket Club

Do you remember the day England played Australia in the Fourth Test of the Ashes and won?  On the same day, the 28th of August last year, the whole of Pucklechurch Cricket Club took part in an annual end-of-season competition. Can you imagine the atmosphere as the announcement came that England had won the test?

This was the first time since 1990 that the Pucklechurch senior teams had played this competition. In recent years, it had been an end-of-season competition for youth teams, but we now hope it will be part of Pucklechurch CCs continuing return to Grass Roots Cricket.

Over 60 players took part between the ages of 8 and 62. There was an early start, a buffet lunch, afternoon tea, and cakes and sweets for the kids and “big kids” alike. The day concluded with a BBQ, disco and presentations for player of the year in each youth age group, plus winner and runner-up for each age group in the competition on the day. Julie Wiltshire, a professional photographer and sister of our Club Captain Mike Wiltshire took numerous photographs, some of which can be seen by going to the Cricket link on the Pucklechurch Community Website. The main group photograph will be on permanent display in the Social Club at the Community Centre.cricket single wicket_sm

Last year, PCC went from four youth sides and two senior Saturday sides to four youth sides, three senior Saturday sides and one Sunday team. We will restart training shortly, so if you or your children are interested, please contact us.

Youth training will start on Sunday, 5 March, between 10.30 and noon on the Rec. Boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17 are welcome.

Senior Nets will be on Thursdays from 7 to 8pm at King Edmund Community School, Yate, commencing on 2 March 2006.

PCC Youth Teams work under the Child Protection Act, Bristol Youth Cricket League, and our Child Protection Officer is Denise Young. Our Youth Managers, Dean and Vicky Freestone, already have CRB authorisation and were recognised last year by the Bristol Youth League with the award for Services to Youth Cricket.

If you would like further information, please contact Dean or Vicky on 937 3227.
